Faster Recovery with Normatec Compression in Archway
Hyperice Normatec 3 Full Body pneumatic compression at the Range and Restore Recovery Suite in Archway. A guide to what it is, how it helps, who it suits and how to book it.

For years, Normatec compression boots were recovery kit you mostly saw in elite training rooms and professional sport. The same system is in our Recovery Suite in Archway, and you can book it as part of a sports massage session.
This guide covers what Normatec Full-Body Compression Recovery actually is, how it works, who gets the most out of it, and how it fits into a training and recovery routine.
What is Normatec Full-Body Compression Recovery?
Normatec is a pneumatic compression system. In plain English, that means a control unit pumps air into a set of fitted boots and attachments wrapped around your limbs. The chambers inside inflate and deflate in a controlled wave, gently squeezing fluid through your circulatory and lymphatic systems and helping the body do the bit it does naturally, only faster.
The specific system we use is the Hyperice Normatec 3 Full Body. It is the current flagship full-body setup from Hyperice, retails at around £1,299 for the home version, and is the same system athletes buy for their own home recovery rooms. We chose Full Body specifically (rather than legs only) because it covers the legs, hips and arms in a single setup. That matters if you are a cyclist with tight hip flexors, a climber with shot forearms, or a runner who wants the hips and lower back included in a long recovery session.
How it works: Patented Pulse Technology
The Normatec system uses what Hyperice calls Patented Pulse Technology. The science behind it is pretty intuitive once you see it in action. Your body already has a system for pushing fluid up and out of the limbs, using muscle pumps and one-way valves in the veins and lymphatic vessels. Pulse Technology mimics that pattern.
Air pumps into the chambers in a precise sequence, inflating from the feet up towards the hips, or from the hands up towards the shoulders, in a rhythmic wave. The pressure encourages fluid up and away from the extremities, which is the bit that makes legs feel lighter and fresher afterwards. Each chamber holds, then releases, then the next chamber takes over. Done well, it feels less like being squeezed and more like a steady, mechanical massage moving up the limb.
Pressure is fully adjustable across seven compression levels, from a light flush at around 40 mmHg up to a deep squeeze at 110 mmHg. There is also a feature called ZoneBoost, which adds extra time and targeted pressure in any specific zone where you need more attention. So if your right calf has had a beating that week, that chamber gets more love. Both controls are managed by your therapist during your session.
What is in the Full-Body setup
A standard full-body Normatec configuration includes three groups of attachments, plus the control unit that drives everything:
- Leg attachments covering from your feet up to your upper thigh. Available in Short, Standard and Tall sizes so the fit is right whether you are 5ft 2in or 6ft 4in.
- Hip attachment covering the glutes, lower back and hip flexors. This is the piece runners, cyclists and desk workers feel the most.
- Arm attachments running from the hand up to the shoulder. Good for climbers, lifters, racquet sport players, and anyone whose upper body has done the work that day.
- Control unit with seven compression levels (40 to 110 mmHg), ZoneBoost technology, Bluetooth connectivity for the Hyperice App, and up to three hours of battery life.
The Bluetooth and app side of things matters less in the clinic, where your therapist sets your programme for you, but it is part of why this is the system we picked. It means programmes are repeatable session to session, so once we find the settings that suit you, we can run them again next time without guesswork.
Who benefits most from Normatec compression
Compression recovery is a strong fit for a wider range of people than most realise. The clients who tend to get the most out of it round here are:
- Runners in a training block, before or after a long run, or recovering from a half or full marathon. The legs feeling heavy the day after a long Sunday run is the classic Normatec use case.
- Gym-goers and lifters on a leg-day cycle, or anyone running heavy training weeks. Many clients find compression after a hard session takes the edge off next-day DOMS.
- Cyclists who finish a long ride with tight quads, hip flexors and a stiff lower back. Full-body covers all three at once.
- People on their feet all day for work. Hospitality, healthcare staff, teachers, retail, trades. If your legs feel like concrete by 7pm, this is recovery built for you.
- Office workers and commuters who want structured recovery time that is not just sitting on the sofa again.
- Climbers and racquet sport players who train arms hard and never give the upper body the same recovery attention as the legs.
- Anyone managing DOMS, that delayed-onset soreness that hits 24 to 48 hours after a hard session.
A safety note before we move on. Pneumatic compression is not suitable in some circumstances, including DVT or a history of blood clots, recent surgery, vascular conditions, pregnancy, severe heart conditions and open wounds in the treated area. If any of that applies, check with your GP first and have a look at the full contraindications list on the compression therapy service page before you book.
How it benefits you
Normatec has become a fixture in elite sport because it is an easy, low-effort part of a recovery routine. In the 30-minute Normatec part of the session, many clients find:
- Less next-day soreness. Compression may help ease soreness in the day or two after a hard session.
- Lighter, less-fatigued legs. The drained, heavy feeling after long runs or long shifts on your feet often eases.
- Support for circulation through the legs, hips and arms while the system is running.
- Less puffiness after long flights, long days standing, or hard training.
- A proper 30 minutes off your feet. Phone down, eyes closed, recovery mode. That bit on its own matters more than people give it credit for.
- Hands-on work first. The Normatec follows 60 minutes of hands-on sports massage in the same session, so the areas that need direct work get it. Our hybrid infrared sauna is booked separately.
It is not magic. It is not going to fix a torn hamstring or a chronic hip problem on its own. But as a piece of a recovery routine, it does what it says and it does it consistently.
A local recovery option in Archway
A home Normatec system costs around £1,299, which is a lot for something most people use once or twice a week. We wanted a pro-grade setup that people around Archway could use without travelling across London. The Hyperice Normatec 3 Full Body sits in our Recovery Suite at 130 Junction Road, a short walk from Archway and Tufnell Park stations, alongside the Vidalux two-person hybrid infrared sauna and the hands-on services from our team of therapists.
For runners training on Hampstead Heath, Parkland Walk and Highgate Wood, and for people coming out of the gyms across Archway, Tufnell Park and Holloway, that is a recovery option close to home.
What a Sports Massage + Normatec session looks like
Normatec is booked as one 90-minute session for £110: 60 minutes of sports massage, then 30 minutes of Normatec compression. There is no standalone Normatec session. Here is how it runs:
- You arrive in loose, comfortable kit. Leggings, joggers, shorts and a t-shirt all work fine for the Normatec part.
- The first 60 minutes are hands-on sports massage, with your therapist working on the areas that need direct attention.
- Your therapist then fits the Normatec attachments, talks you through the programme and sets the pressure level.
- You sit back or lie down. The system runs through the inflation wave from feet to hips and, on full-body programmes, from hands to shoulders.
- You can adjust the pressure or pause at any point. If something does not feel right, we change it.
- Most people find the last 30 minutes genuinely relaxing. Eyes closed, phone off.
Full details, including who compression is not suitable for, are on the compression therapy page. You can also see our massage and sauna options on the Recovery Packages page. Book the session online, or contact the clinic if you want to talk through whether it suits you first.
